History
The Beginning

Celestials were born with the big bang. The first of the ancients, called Cosmics, formed from magic that exploded into existence with the creation of the universe. They began as beings of pure energy with no true sense of self. Drifting endlessly across the cosmos in a cluster of light and magic that fed off the radiation and energy given off by stars and the universe itself. Without a purpose.
Together as a mass of energy, over millions of years, slowly they began to form a proper consciousness while coming into contact with more stars, planets and other celestial bodies. As they began to know their place in the universe they began to form a language consisting of clicks, grunts and various other sounds while projecting what they were feeling into the consciousness of the others around them. This soon led to the ability to see and hear properly. This ability to survey and take in more information led to more conversations and more complex thought. Communication grew and with it grew a desire to see more, do more. And with that feeling of desire they formed physical bodies like all the wonders they were running into.
The process was slow, taking nearly 2 million years to complete due to the energy needed and the committee formed to make a decision on their features. What would they look like? How big should they be? How many limbs should they have? They gathered as much energy and stray magic as they could. Manipulating it into a physical body that was most desirable to each individual. A form that is now known as the Cosmic Body Plan. There was not much in the way of practicality in mind when they created their bodies. They were simply formed because they liked how these bodies looked. They had no need for practical form while drifting through space. It didn't matter. While they all had a similar basic shape - each individual did something a little different.
They spent many millennia travelling the cosmos together in these new bodies. Seeing what they could find in the vacuum of space. It was fun for a time, though eventually they grew tired of one another and ventured off on their own. Striking out across the cosmos in the thousands. Searching for purpose, the reason they came to be or to simply find something fun to do. Some settled in solar systems they found interesting, others studied the fabric of reality as they knew it. Endlessly venturing to find their answers. Some even fell dormant. Entering a long sleep in a dark corner.

The Era of the Cosmic was long and beautiful but all things must come to an end to make room for something new.
New Iterations

After splitting apart from each other, a few individuals discovered planets with life upon them. All at various stages in their development with different beings and creatures roaming them. Different levels of intelligence and society. All still very young in the grand scheme of things. Upon seeing this, these Cosmics got an idea. What if they figured out how to make new Celestials? Children of their own to populate the universe further and see more. Learn more.
A small collective got together and began studying the planets with life that they found. Learning how these beings formed, how they grew and how they died. Such a concept was foreign to them as immortal beings but every little stage of life mattered in their ultimate goal. They soaked up the information as if they were ravenously hungry. In time they were ready and the first Starborn was created.
One of the Cosmics, Vivitas, plucked a piece of her soul from her body, exerting an incredible amount of power and magic in the process. With some focus, she was able to convince the fragment to become a being of its own. At first just a tiny soul. Insignificant and flickering like starlight in the palm of her hand. But it soon grew in power, giving it the ability to begin forming a body of it's own as well.

The little soul of the new Celestial, with time, became the very first Chaos iteration. She began her new life as a tiny, grey, black and purple noodle of a creature. Four little arms and a long snaky body with a scrawny head decorated by a crown of tiny blunt horns. She was similar to the Cosmics in shape but significantly smaller. Over time as she grew in power her body grew larger, more refined. A pair of hind legs sprouted while her horns grew long and sharp. Despite being full grown, she was still but a speck compared to her mother and the other Cosmics who surrounded her. She would come to be known as Modaren.

She grew up well. Following along beside her mother with the other Cosmics, who created more Chaos Iterations for her to play with. The first of many Starborn to grace the cosmos. All in different shapes, colours, textures and personalities but all following the same four armed body plan that Modaren did.

After the Chaos Iterations came the Claw Iteration. Many were created across the Cosmics who were experimenting. This creature formed with dragon wings and a two pronged tail but lacked the second set of arms that the Cosmics and the Chaos Iterations had. They were more subdued than their boisterous siblings but no less powerful.

It wasn't until Vivitas created her Claw Iteration that the third came to be. When she plucked the fragment of her soul for her Claw Iteration, something different and surprising happened. It split in two and yet stayed linked together, swirling around each other as if they were attached by some invisible force. The new Iteration formed with a set of wings like their counter part but were feathered instead. Their tail was shorted than the other two and sported a furry tuft at the end as well as long crest of fur down their back. This Iteration was dubbed, Feather and their power was linked so closely with Claw that it would spiral out of control on a planet's surface if they were to step upon it without their sibling. The Feather Iteration caused life to explode out of control and evolve rapidly, overgrowing until the planet became crowded and painful. When the Claw Iteration touched the surface, everything would die around them but if they stood together, they balanced each other. It was the first of many sets of Starborn twins to form over time but Vivitas could not have been more proud. She named her twins Oso, the Feather and Zetix the Claw. Eventually - many millennia later - they would come to be know as Life and Death instead.

The Cosmics were intrigued by the forms their little Starborn were taking. So they continued trying to make more. Creating hundreds of little Starborn to populate their known universe. But they found they were not taking on any new forms. Only the three Iterations were forming. Despite their best efforts, they could create no new Iterations so in defeat, they disbanded once again. Vivitas taking her three with her while all the others scattered about the universe to find a purpose of their own.

Age of Starborn

As time went on, the Cosmics became more lethargic and distant from the Starborn. They were few and the Starborn many, making it difficult to keep track of them all. Eventually they struck out on their own as well. After all they knew how to reproduce between themselves to create even more Starborn. What could the Cosmics possible do to stop them?

They spread far and wide across the universe. Some stayed together and formed what would be know as the first Celestial Planet Colony. This group found a world that was situated perfectly in it's star systems with water, plant and animal life and a climate that was welcoming so they stayed there to live, create their own children and study in peace. It was a paradise that all Starborn were welcome to join.

Others found worlds filled with other sapient beings that were evolving and forming societies of their own. Many came to be known as gods and others simply as guardians. Many didn't make themselves known on these worlds at all. Simply observing from a distance. Even Vivitas's children did the same. They found a world that they shaped to their liking, moving it to the perfect spot in it's systems and helping it along until life and eventually humans started to evolve there.

And a few chose to push their magic to the test. They worked hard and eventually learned that they could hop between universes and dimensions. Some never returned home, settling in the new spaces they found. Some chose to see as many universes as they could. Even a few Cosmics followed in their wake.

The age of the Starborn was a thing of beauty. One that eventually led to yet another change. Their primal forms began to shift upright onto two legs and shrink in size. Some even ended up with flatter, more humanoid faces. They found it easier to navigate among the new life forms of the universe in this shape. It seemed to make them more friendly and approachable than their large dragon-like primal forms. Though Celestial magic is a funny thing. The Starborn still kept their primal forms and could switch between them at will. Something the Cosmics, in all their glory, could not do.

In time the universe settled and a long era of Starborn stretched onward. They cared for the universe in a way that the distant Cosmics did not. They got involved and even created a Grand Archive of information that continues to grow to this day. All life if important to most Starborn. Even if they don't always say it.
